Staff Custodian
At First Children's Services, we're a leading provider of services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other complex special needs in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Due to our continued growth, we have an immediate need for a shining star to join our growing team as a custodian based out of our Fanwood and Roselle Park, NJ locations.
Positions will travel between two locations to assist with all janitorial and cleaning needs.
In your role, you'll be responsible for maintaining the building and supporting a learning environment that promotes health, attitude and pride for our staff and students.

Based on experienceYour duties will include:
Cleaning FunctionsPerform general maintenance in assigned locations, including painting, plumbing, carpentry and general repair work to the school and assigned clinic locations.
Maintain a clean environment in all program areas (general offices, bathrooms, classrooms, kitchens, conference rooms, classrooms, recreation areas, reception and waiting areas, hallways, outside grounds, parking lots, etc.
).
Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub; clean, dust and polish furniture; wash windows, glass and walls; clean restrooms; dispose of rubbish, etc.
Make certain all areas of the building are kept in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition according to organization standards.
Pick up litter within the school and the assigned clinics.
Assure safety during inclement weather to including assisting with shoveling, salting, providing slip protection on wet floors, securing against wind damage, snow removal from roofs, remove debris from down spouts when clogged, etc.
Adheres to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment.
Removes extraneous dirt/markings from interior and exterior vertical/horizontal surfaces (walls, doors, etc.
).
Other ResponsibilitiesMaintain tools and equipment in good condition.
Project and communicate need for supplies.
Attend training, supervision sessions and staff meetings as directed by supervisor, in accordance with company policy and pursuant to applicable regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and
Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience working as a custodian, janitor or related field.
Experience working as a handyman strongly preferred.
Must be able to read, write and understand English.
Must possess interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with children, co-workers, and parents/guardians.
Must display a professional attitude.
Must possess the ability to be physically mobile, with or without reasonable accommodation, so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted, position requires frequent bending, lifting, walking, crawling, reaching other physical activities.
